Structured Wiring
The wiring infrastructure in most homes has not changed in 50 years and is unable to support the technologies available to consumers today.  Modern wiring systems are designed to handle today's technologies and provide the electronic foundation for a "Connected Home".  This advanced infrastructure is called, "Structured Wiring".

What Makes It Different
Think of the wiring in your home as a pipeline for information.  Conventional wiring has the data capacity of a squirt pistol and by comparison, structured wiring, using Category 5 cables and other superior cabling has the capacity of a fire hose.  Essentially, structured wiring can send more information and more types of information, faster.

Components of Structured Wiring
The Central Distribution Panel:

The Central Distribution Panel is the control hub of the system where all outside services enter the home...including, telephone, cable TV or off-air antenna, DSS satellite, internet services, etc.

Unlike conventional wiring schemes which utilize a single large loop from room to room, the Central Distribution Center, acting as a "hub", provides direct runs to each location for phone, coaxial cable, etc. much in the same way the main electrical panel distributes power throughout the home.  The end result is a much neater, more efficient system which can be easily and simply accessed for future upgrades or changes.

High Performance Cable and Connections

Certain devices, such as digital satellite, high-speed Internet and digital TV require high performance cables to allow full access throughout the home.  Most structured wiring systems include RG-6 (Quad-Shield) coaxial cable and Cagtegory 5 (4-pair | 4-line capable)  high-speed phone wire.  Fiber optic cable can also be included to provide for tomorrow's technology, today.

Multi-Use Wall Outlets

The outlets installed at each room location will determine which services are available at that particular site.  Structured wiring systems use
"modular"
fixtures that can be configured in various ways.  Choices vary from single service fixtures (such as telephone), multiple service fixtures (such as, telephone and coaxial) to outlets providing ALL services within the home
to a single location.  The combinations available are limited only by the imagination.

The Investment
Regardless of the size, location or cost of a new home, incorporating Structured Wiring Standards can add to the value at re-sale and effectively ensure optimum access to developing standards of communication, entertainment, security and control technologies.  A "Connected Home" can be realized today with a minimal investment of from $ 800.00 to $ 2000.00, installed.  The initial investment varies depending on the scope of the installation and, the home control options available to the customer.  When you realize that the cost of the (no-longer-required) conventional wiring is effectively deducted from the Structured Wiring installation, it is indeed a true value.
